Our environmental efforts for 2013 and the future

As we feel the need to be environment friendly, we have recently made quite some adjustments in our modus operandi regarding our farming and hotel / guesthouse activities.

To name a few:

We separate waste and take the empty bottles for recycling.

We only use energy saving light bulbs for the night lights and almost everywhere in the guesthouse where possible.

We use environmental friendly cleaning products and we use pre-fabricated bacteria to help us, to defuse the sewer water in large tanks into clean water as a result at the end of the line.

We have stopped printing brochures, flyers and other material and we only use the internet to communicate our product and offerings.

The guestrooms are for 70% powered by the sun regarding hot water, as we have 2x200 litre tanks and 24 solar tubes installed on the guesthouse roof and we only need electricity if the sun is not around for more than 2 days.

The biggest environmental saving is being made by using pre-sand filtered rain water out of our own dam to keep our pools up to level, instead of municipal water.  We use quite an amount of water in the heat of Paarl during the summer and of course we also use the dam water to spray the gardens.
